Mizunara casks are made of Mizunara special oak and are apt to leak more than cask made of American White Oak or other oaks. This is because of the porousness of the Mizunara oak and its lumbering method, sawn not split. Mizunara oak is very rare and its yield of staves very small.
Mizunara needs to be around 200 years old before it can be cut and used for casks.
